New retirement facility launched in Chester
A brand new retirement complex in Chester, costing £18 million and offering over 100 apartments equipped with care facilities, has now opened.
Called Abbot’s Wood, the site is located in Northgate Avenue and was built as the result of a team effort between the Homes & Communities Agency, Cheshire West and Chester Council and Your Housing Group, which formed two years ago after the merging of two housing providers in the North West.
It contains 131 rooms in total, fitted with facilities for providing residents with additional care and Brenda Dowding, the council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health, stated:
“Given the substantial increase in the numbers of older people living in our borough, the type of housing provision offered at Abbot’s Wood is increasingly seen as vital.
“These apartments will enable people to continue to live as independently as possible; to benefit from a range of on-site facilities; and will offer peace of mind by providing personal support tailored to residents’ individual requirements.”
Among the facilities that the apartments within the complex have been fitted with are fully equipped kitchens, wet rooms, and integrated extractor fans and ovens. It also has assisted bathrooms and colour-coordinated designs for every floor to aid those suffering from dementia.
Major building projects of this kind often call on firms based in the area that are able to handle specific aspects of the work, such as companies providing gravel driveways in Chester, to ensure that every part of the project is completed to the highest possible standard.
Managers for the development have stated that the support and care workers who will be present onsite at the complex – which also features an activities room, hairdresser and bistro – will provide qualified assistance tailored to the needs of each resident.
