Report shows Brits are ploughing cash into their gardens
It seems that chilly winters, followed by a wet and windy spring, have done little to deter stoical British householders from working on their gardens. Indeed, according to a recent report in the Daily Telegraph, Britons have invested some £80bn pounds in their gardens.
This is, at least in part, because garden improvements can really help increase the value of a house or ground-floor flat. County Homesearch’s Jonathan Haward explains:
“A nice garden would always attract interest and could add up to 20pc to a home’s value.”
Not all the work being done, however, is of the green-fingered variety. While luxurious plants and neatly trimmed borders can truly enhance a garden, homeowners have also been busy changing layouts and adding features, such as hot tubs, summer houses, conservatories and patios.
For instance, paving in the Chester area is a popular choice for making gardens easier to manage, and more attractive. Elegant Indian stone, and paving blocks in a variety of colours, can provide relaxing patio spaces to truly complement the greenery of a lawn. Ornate garden paving in Wirral and Chester is certainly adding value to many properties in this region.
Finally, as well as making a property more of a catch when put up for sale, a well-built patio can facilitate home entertaining. Even, therefore, when the housing market is quiet, the existing owners of a renovated garden can enjoy it to the full, as can their family and friends.
